US and UK Marines Face Off at 44th Marine Corps Marathon

The U.S. and British teams competed on October 27, 2019, for the Queen’s Challenge Cup, an annual racing competition during the Marine Corps Marathon that promotes cohesion and camaraderie within our alliance. Eight runners from each team competed in the 26.2 mile course, fighting to help their team claim the trophy. Racing through intense rain on a muddy and wet course, the teams split the competition with the British All-Royal Navy and Marine Running Team winning the men’s race, and the American All-Marine Running Team winning the women’s race.

On the men’s side, the Royal Navy-Marine team’s Corporal Adam Stokes won the Challenge Cup race, coming in second overall in the entire marathon, with a time of 2:28:59. Not far behind were Major Sean Barrett of the U.S. team with a time of 2:33:12 and Lance Corporal Adam Peacock of the U.K. team with a time of 2:34:08.

For the women, Captain Christine Guerrero of the U.S. team came in first, with a time of 2:59:28. She was followed by Lieutenants Chelsea Baker and Fleur Peoples of the U.K. team with times of 3:22:48 and 3:26:55, respectively. Captain Nikki Jackson of the U.S. team rounded out the women’s scoring with a time of 3:34:27.
