Sexual Assault Prevention Starts with All of Us
Readiness begins long before a crisis occurs. It is built through daily actions that strengthen trust, foster connection, and reinforce the shared responsibility to care for one another.
Every Marine, attached Sailor, and leader must help foster an environment of dignity and mutual respect to help prevent harmful behaviors and strengthen the resilience of individuals, units, and the Marine Corps.
The Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program is asking you to: Show Up. Lock In. Look Out.
Prevention starts with being present, engaged, and committed to supporting one another. Every interaction is an opportunity to build trust, recognize concerns early, and connect others with support before challenges escalate.
Show Up
Invest in teammates and strengthen relationships to build cohesive, resilient units. Check in with fellow Marines, engage with family, or build professional connections. Strong relationships create an environment where people feel valued, supported, and comfortable asking for help.
Lock In
Stay focused on the Marine Corps’ core values and standards to strengthen your unit’s readiness. Commit to maintaining an environment where boundary violations, harassment, and predatory behaviors are never tolerated, excused, or overlooked. Building healthy relationships with peers contributes to success on and off duty. When planning a night out with friends, keep everyone’s safety in mind. Pay attention to your own well-being and recognize when you or someone else may need support.
Look Out
Look out for your fellow Marines and act when something is not right. Recognize concerning behaviors and intervene early before situations escalate. If someone needs help from SAPR, connect the person with either a SAPR victim advocate, sexual assault response coordinator (SARC), or the DoD SafeHelpline at 877-995-5247.
Total Fitness Takes Total Effort
The Marine Corps Total Fitness framework recognizes that readiness depends on the strength of the whole Marine.
One domain—social fitness—builds trust, belonging, teamwork, and supportive relationships across units, families, and communities. Strong connections can encourage Marines to seek help earlier and strengthen resilience.
Every conversation matters. Every action matters. Every Marine matters.
Show Up. Lock In. Look Out. Together we can strengthen connections, support one another, and build a more resilient, ready force.
