Guiding Teens’ Next Steps After High School
As high school students near graduation, the future can seem overwhelming with the many options available for life after graduation: enlistment in the military, attending college, entering the workforce, or pursuing a trade. Guiding teens through these choices is crucial to helping them make an informed decision about their next steps. One valuable resource to consider is your School Liaison Program (SLP).
The SLP recognizes that every child’s path is different and is prepared to address specific questions you may have. When you contact the SLP office, some common questions to ask are:
-
Are there any scholarship opportunities for my college-bound child?
-
How can my child get additional support for the ACT or SAT?
-
How can a school counselor help my child?
-
Are there any career fairs on base or in the community?
-
Where can I look to find a military recruiter?
-
What is CTE (career and technical education)?
-
We moved in the middle of senior year; will my child be able to graduate on time?
-
What other installation resources are available to help with planning for this transition?
