Join IT&T on a visit to two temples in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Amidaji Temple is well-known as “Hydrangea Temple.” The temple grounds are now planted with around 4,000 hydrangea plants of eighty different varieties. You have the opportunity to purchase a hydrangea flower at the temple.

Joeji Temple is renowned for its garden, Sesshutei, a notable feature of the temple. As its name suggests, the garden was built by the well-known monk, painter, and garden designer Sesshu. It is a live representation of one of Sessu’s landscape paintings. Completed around 500 years ago, Sesshutei features many vertically upright rocks, a style of rock arrangement distinct from the Muromachi Period (1333–1573 AD).
